Smithdon High School Wnat

A secondary academy of West Norfolk Academies Trust

Smithdon High School is committed to the pursuit of excellence, both in terms of its students' achievements and the quality of educational provision here. The school has recently consolidated its improvements with an Ofsted rating of 'Good' in all categories (June 2014), and we are developing teaching and learning strategies to meet the challenges of new examination courses and new curriculum requirements - currently affecting all schools - in order to ensure that our youngsters have every chance of success.

These are exciting times, following the school's best ever A Level results in 2014 (where over 50% of all grades were A*, A or B, an outstanding achievement). The challenge now is to ensure that students passing through the school all develop the learning habits that will not only enable them to meet and surpass their personal targets, but also furnish them with the skills and attributes needed to flourish in the adult world of work.

That challenge will be met by a dedicated team of staff, within a well-resourced environment. The school offers some excellent teaching and learning facilities for all prescribed curriculum subjects, across a range of listed ('Brutalist' award-winning architecture) and modern, purpose-built accommodation, as well as some less frequently-found features (for example, a designated swimming pool and a recording studio). As a school, we are large enough to offer an impressive array of facilities, and still small enough for staff to know all of the students well.

Key Stage 3 and 4 students at Smithdon present themselves smartly in uniform and behave well. To quote Ofsted:

"Students' attitudes to learning in all year groups .... are positive and they are motivated to work hard and do well."

That motivation is the key to success. We all want to see our children grow, learn and achieve. Smithdon High School students know that we expect nothing less than their personal best from them, and we expect, guide and support them to rise to that challenge.
